Education, Children and Play Groups
Clophill Preschool is a recently awarded Ofsted Outstanding early years setting which is teacher led. We run as a community business that does not run for profit but instead we use our funds to provide staff with a fair living wage, offering families guidance and a network of support and, most importantly, giving children a diverse, stimulating and safe learning experience.
We strive to promote equality and to value diversity through a well-resourced and thoughtful environment that we set up each day within the large hall and expansive outdoors of Clophill Village Hall from where the children can explore the natural environment and let their imaginations run free.
We have a newly developed Outdoor Learning Shelter and operate a Nature and Nurture Friday when the children play and learn outside for the whole session. Our staff respond to each child’s emerging needs and interests, guiding their development through warm, positive interaction. We work hard to support children with additional needs as true believers that every child matters, has a voice and needs supporting and challenging to meet their full potential.
We are also proud of the strong connections we have built through our local community working with a variety of professionals, local small businesses, artists and community groups which enhance our children’s experiences and learning and bring our local community together.

St. Mary’s VA CofE Lower is a successful village school sited in the centre of the beautiful village of Clophill where parents, pupils, staff, governors as well as members of the local community work together to provide a nurturing and enriching educational experience for every child.
We are a Values school, teaching and reinforcing twenty-two core values over a two year cycle. These values are reflected in our ethos and are shared with and embraced by the local community.
Our core aims are to ensure that every child at St. Mary’s is happy and able to achieve their full potential during their time with us and we have several systems in place to ensure that parents can work alongside us to achieve these goals. We encourage parents to work with us as much as possible through reading at home, helping in school, supporting school activities, joining our truly amazing Friends of St. Mary’s (P.T.A.) and just simply keeping us informed of any important aspects in their child’s life.
We also work very closely together with other lower schools in the area as well as our middle and upper school. This collaborative approach is in place to provide a successful learning journey for every child.
Our school website provides further information about Clophill St. Mary’s VA CofE Lower School and is updated regularly. We also welcome visits to the school so you can see us in action! Up to date information is additionally provided through the fortnightly newsletter which can be found under the “Letters Home” tab on this page.
